What is a Cavapoo?
What is a Cavapoo? A cavapoo is a mix between the loving King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and the Poodle.
How big do Cavapoo’s get?
How big do cavapoo’s get? Well because they are a mix lets first start with the King Charles Cavalier. The King Charles Cavalier is a small dog that weighs between 13-18 pounds and stands approximately 13 inches tall. The poodle on the other hand can range in size from 5 pounds and up. Our stud here is a cavapoo who weighs 8 pounds.
What colors do Cavapoo’s come in?
Cavapoo’s come in a variety of colors. Our favorite is the red and white. Some of the other cavapoo colors include red or ruby, black and tan, and Blenheim which is white with red spots. Because the poodle breed has a rainbow of colors anything is possible when it comes to cavapoo coat colors.
Is it easy to groom a Cavapoo?
The Cavapoo is fairly easy to groom if you are consistent with brushing them out. Make sure you have a good brush, one with stiff teeth is best. Brush the cavapoo daily and make sure you are getting the teeth down to the skin. Doodle fur has a tendency to mat if not brushed daily. A bath every few weeks should keep your cavapoo puppy smelling fresh. The hair in the ears will need attention and possibly plucked depending on how thick it is. The coat will need trimmed every 6-8 weeks. If you are going to use a dog groomer please start taking the puppy early on, socialization to the grooming salon at a young age is highly recommended. If you choose to groom at home there are several items you can purchase to make the job easier. I recommend a grooming table, professional clippers and professional scissors.
Is a Cavapoo healthy?
Are Cavapoo’s healthy? For the most part Cavapoo’s are healthy. They have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. Cavapoo’s can have dental problems so a dental cleaning by a vet is recommended around age 4. If you practice good dental hygene with your dog this can be avoided but not always.
What is the temperament of a Cavapoo?
The Cavapoo is a very loyal and loving companion. The King Charles Cavalier was bred to keep the Queen warm on her carriage ride, therefor the cavapoo loves to be held and make an excellent lap dog. With such a great love for people the Cavapoo does not like to be alone and seperation anxiety can develop. A second dog or always having someone home is a good idea. There are other options such a neighbor or doggy daycare if this issue does develop. All in all, the cavapoo makes an excellent pet.
